the sweatshirt saga {silly}

Meet my hoodie.  It's awesome, right?  Looks nice and comfy, long, baggy, perfect for lounging around AND doing things like running errands, grocery shopping, etc. Yes?? Well, that's what I thought too, and is why I purchased it some 8 years ago.

But alas.  Miss Thunderthighs McGee (that's me) looks very dumpy and frumpy in this hoodie.  Who cares if I'm just lounging around, right?!  Well...yes...that's true, I suppose.  However I do still like to look somewhat cute, even when I'm lounging, I mean...I have an amazing husband who deserves to have a wife who doesn't look like she just walked out of one of those emails with all the Walmart people. RIGHT?!

I have never been able to bring myself to get rid of this hoodie, even though I hate how it looks on me, because I still think as far as hoodies go, it rocks!  I mean, it's not the hoodie's fault that it just happens to land right smack dab in the absolute widest and largest part of my thighs, nor can it help that it's maker failed to put any elastic in the bottom band, which would have made it possible for me to tuck it under.

WELL my friends (those of you who are still here and haven't nodded off or been distracted by your fingernails), today I believe I found a solution and can now wear my rockin' hoodie with pride!
My amazing, astounding, mind-blowing, over-the-top, you'll-never-believe-it solution??

A safety pin.

Yep!  A safety pin, at the bottom of the band, cinching it up enough that I can tuck that sucker right underneath.  SOOOOOO can you see it?!  Can you see how much better it looks with the help of that little safety pin??

Or perhaps I'm just delusional....which is highly likely.

Frugal Fashion

I follow a blog called Pink Coffee Photoart, owned by Professional Photographer Lyndsay Almeida. When she was pregnant, she started posting pictures of the outfits she liked most, hoping to encourage other pregnant women that there can still be fashion with a baby bulge. Lyndsay has since had her baby, an adorable boy named Kingston Rock, but she has continued the "Outfit of the Week" posts and I must say...I do get inspired by her creativity with her closet.

This is my feeble attempt at somewhat replicating one of her posts. (I said FEEBLE! I am NO professional, do not have her creativity or eye for these things, but still...I'm trying!)

V-neck T - $3 at Walmart (last night! HA)
Skirt - This was a dress I bought at Von Maur 4 years ago. I couldn't make it work as a dress anymore so I chopped off the top and made it a skirt. The belt used to tie around the back, just under the bodice, so I saved it and use it to hold the skirt in place.
Flip flops - Payless Shoes, the same day I bought the dress from Von Maur.
Bracelets - Various pieces I've picked up along the years, the wide brown one and one of the others came from Uganda.

Maybe you'll be inspired...maybe you won't...but either way, make sure you check out Lyndsay's Outfit of the Week because hers are light-years better than this one! hehehe :)

Big Mama's Fashion Fiesta

medium button
My Mom is a big fan of Big Mama, who is doing a fun blog fashion show today. My Mom inspired me and I decided to play along.

So since I'm pregnant, it only seemed fitting to use my growth pictures! Here I am at 10 weeks, with a pudge that isn't baby...just too many trips to Taco Bell and not enough trips to the River Greenway for a power walk!! I'm looking lovely in my daily attire of a tank top and sweat pants. Heidi Klum, eat your heart out.
Hello 15 weeks! Ok I really don't live in tank tops, as you'll see farther down the line. I think I kept wearing them to show off the tummy growth. I am however wearing my FAVORITE brand of jeans...Silver!! These jeans are not maternity but I have been a staple of my wardrobe all the same. I don't know about anyone else, but it's really hard for me to find maternity jeans that are not "Mom Jeans" which leave you with pockets on your kidneys and a yard of fabric under your shirt giving the illusion that you have two pillows stuffed down your pants.

20 weeks and look! Those same Silver jeans are still getting me through!! At least I decided to add some color to my tank top wardrobe. Jeesh
24 weeks and this is what Ed McMahon would find ME wearing if he were to deliver a big check (I stole this from Big Mama, see her fashion show). The only difference is for some reason I have make up on and that is not a daily occurance. This girl loves her drawstring no pocket pants from Wal-Mart!!

28 weeks and floral! Hehe! I actually like this shirt, it came from Target, the Liz Lange maternity collection. That's right, I spend the big bucks and shop for clothes at Target. Sometimes if I really splurge, Old Navy gets my business! :)
30 weeks and this is actually today! Old Navy maternity top, the old stand by white tank top underneath, and my new favorite pants. They're capri's (this girl does NOT wear shorts, trust me, you're thankful for that) and they have the new Secret Fit Belly. This is an amazing invention, whoever the woman is who thought it up, I applaude and I thank you and you deserve all the money you will make selling them. These came from Motherhood Maternity and they are by far the most comfortable maternity jeans I have ever worn. The Secret Fit belly is guaranteed not to roll or bunch and it doesn't. It's AWESOME. If you're pregnant, go try on a pair and I bet you'll be going home with some. Oh and they don't have the pillow butt effect I mentioned earlier!!

I was also supposed to show what I would wear if I could wear anything at all. I'm twisting it a bit...if I could mimic anyone's pregnant radiance and beauty, it would be Catherine Zeta-Jones. Here she is accepting her Oscar for her performance in "Chicago" (my all time favorite movie and musical but that's off topic here). I remember seeing her live that night and she blew me away with how confident, graceful, and absolutely gorgeous she is. And the fact that she did that movie while pregnant is amazing in itself, I can't even find the energy to move the clothes from the washer to the dryer and she was out there doing splits, jumps, dancing for hours!! And she doesn't have lunch lady arms! So I want an outfit that makes me look like Catherine Zeta-Jones!
