Some Thoughts About Noah

I'm reading the Bible from front to back this year. Something I've never done. Genesis was like a Soap Opera!! All the sex, adultery, incest, drunken passed out people...it made my head spin! But what really stood out to me is how God uses the least likely people. Or maybe I should say the people WE wouldn't choose with our judgmental nature. One particular story that stuck out to me is the story of Noah and his 3 sons. Noah was DRUNK and passed out NAKED in his tent. His son, Ham, saw him and told his brothers about it. His brothers, Shem & Japheth, took a garment, layed it over their shoulders and walked backward into the tent to cover their father without seeing him. When Noah awoke, he cursed Ham's son Canaan and blessed Shem & Japheth. All because they had respect enough for their father to not look at his nakedness and vulnerability. Now I know I will probably offend some people here but that is NOT what would stand out to Christians today. I think the focus would be on the fact that Noah was drunk and passed out. Genesis 6:9 says "...Noah was a righteous man, blameless among the people of his time, and he walked with God."

I really think we as Christians need to stop and evaluate our thoughts. We can be SO judgmental. Sometimes I think maybe we focus on what "we" think is a flaw or a fault in another brother or sister in Christ, meanwhile completely missing their gifts and the parts about them that are a blessing. Let's try and remember that Jesus doesn't keep a tally of OUR sins...so why should we keep a tally of anyone's sins?

No...I don't pretend to be a preacher...these are just thoughts I felt nudged to share. :)

i couldn't agree with you more here, keri. it's something that i think turns a large majority of people away from christianity. truly some of the most judgemental and hypocritical people i know are christians. it makes me sad :(

I also agree...remember the church I was raised in???? Most of the members made me feel that way...like they were always judging. Thats is why I am not there :)
Thanks for sharing

Yes, it started out as "Passover" because I was going to post something completely different but this is what ended up coming out of my fingers. LOL

I agree with you Keri. We can all be so judgemental in our every day lives and its hard sometimes to sit back and say "wait a minute, thats not right to be that way." Great post!
